Can you solve our chess puzzles in no time? Or have you always wanted to learn how to? From Carlsen to Polgar, from beginner to expert: student chess club De Rode Loper is here to help you. Every Thursday evening the club offers space to play chess.com – or lichess, for the experts among us – in real life. Vladomeare Obolonskyy, president but above all chess player, gives a sneak peek behind the black-and-white curtain.
Vladomeare explains: “Besides playing ‘regular chess’ during club nights, we also organise extra activities, for example the ASL Chess Competition (Antwerp Student League, ed.) and in the spring we take part in the international PCU tournament in Antwerp.” But their agenda is also filled with smaller events: “Every year, we also organise theme and poker nights.” People who want to join the committee are also welcome. “Whether it’s to help with social media or with club nights, everyone is welcome.”
As per usual, the club will kick off the chess season with its famous pizza night. Every Thursday, De Rode Loper plays chess in different locations in Antwerp. Feel free to drop by and who knows, you might just checkmate a few players. Where will they be playing this Thursday? How can I join the ASL Chess Competition? And which activities are planned? You can find the answers to all these questions on their social media.
